QF and NBA Unveil Third Season of Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Qatar League

The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Qatar League has officially kicked off its third edition, bringing together over 1,200 young basketball enthusiasts from all over the country. The event is being held at Qatar Foundation’s Education City, presenting an excellent opportunity for budding athletes to showcase their talent and passion for the sport.

Details of the League

From September 25 to November 7, 2026, the Multaqa (Education City Student Center) will host this vibrant league, organized by Qatar Foundation in partnership with the NBA and supported by the Qatar Basketball Federation. The draft event recently took place, allowing teams to adopt NBA team names and finalize their game schedules prior to the season’s opening. This year’s league has expanded significantly to feature three age categories: Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16, providing a platform for 80 teams to compete and enhance their basketball skills in a competitive yet nurturing environment.

Focus on Development and Growth

Kholoud M. Al-Ali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programming at Qatar Foundation, emphasized the positive impact the league has on young players. She stated, “The continuous growth of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Qatar League showcases the rising enthusiasm for basketball among youth in our country. We are deeply committed to creating avenues for young individuals to engage in sports that foster a supportive atmosphere.”

According to Al-Ali, the collaboration with the NBA and the backing of the Qatar Basketball Federation amply enable participants to refine their skills, understand the significance of teamwork, and cultivate self-confidence on and off the court. The introduction of the third age category allows more youngsters to immerse themselves in this thrilling journey, setting the stage for personal and athletic development.

The league reflects a shared commitment to youth development, with participating teams sporting the names of well-known NBA franchises such as the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Miami Heat. Alongside competitive games, the league will also include hands-on clinics offering coaching sessions tailored to the different age groups.

Mohamed Saad Al Meghaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, expressed pride in witnessing the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Qatar League reach its third year. He noted that it has evolved into a significant platform for youth basketball development within the nation. Al Meghaiseeb stated, “The enduring partnership with Qatar Foundation has been crucial in growing the sport, providing young players with invaluable opportunities to learn, compete, and advance both athletically and personally.”
