QFC and QNB Group Partner to Improve Access to Business Banking

Doha has witnessed a significant development with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) and QNB Group entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership is geared towards enhancing access to banking services for QFC-licensed companies while exploring new opportunities that could bolster the growth of Qatar’s capital markets.

Strengthening Business Foundations

The MoU merges the QFC’s commitment to attract and support businesses within Qatar with QNB Group’s robust banking and financial service offerings. Initial collaborative efforts will focus on streamlining the corporate account opening process for newly licensed businesses, enhancing digital access to vital banking services, and investigating innovative financing solutions tailored to meet the growing needs of these enterprises. By facilitating these essential services, both organizations aim to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Mansoor Al Khater, the Chief Executive Officer of QFC, emphasized the importance of accessible banking, stating, “Access to banking is crucial for any company setting up in Qatar. Our goal is to simplify this process for QFC firms and their employees, while also contributing to the depth of the capital markets.” This partnership with QNB aims to not only streamline banking access but also provide a stronger foundation for businesses as they scale.

Expanding Opportunities for Growth

For QNB, this collaboration signifies a chance to assist enterprises right from their inception in Qatar through their expansion into regional and international markets. By fusing corporate banking services with its expansive international network, QNB can effectively cater to the daily financial needs of QFC-licensed enterprises. Moreover, the partnership will explore how QNB’s financial expertise combined with QFC’s legal framework can facilitate connections to diverse funding sources, supporting long-term growth and sustainability.

Abdulla Mubarak Al Khalifa, Group Chief Executive Officer of QNB Group, noted, “A competitive financial centre must extend beyond mere business attraction; it requires a robust financial infrastructure that fosters establishment, operations, and growth.” He believes that through this collaboration, they can enhance the banking experience for businesses entering the Qatari market while simultaneously developing deeper capital markets and improved financing access.

Integration and Future Initiatives

Under the terms of the MoU, QFC will endorse QNB as a primary partner bank and will refer newly licensed firms for corporate account setups. In addition, QNB will streamline its service offerings to QFC firms and their employees to significantly reduce onboarding times. The partnership will also explore the possibility of integrating digital platforms, enabling firms to open accounts directly via the QFC’s online interface.

In terms of capital markets, both organizations will collaborate on Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) programs, Special Purpose Company (SPC) structures, and various financing platforms through the QFC. Their focus will extend to treasury, liquidity management solutions, and exploring opportunities related to tokenization and digital assets. To drive these initiatives forward, technical working groups will be established.

Over the next year, QFC and QNB plan to conduct workshops, training sessions, and industry roundtables to engage with institutional investors, international banks, and law firms. This aligns with their objective of positioning both Qatar and the QFC as prominent hubs for capital markets on regional and international fronts.
