Saudi Foreign Minister Conducts Individual Discussions with Turkish and Qatari Officials

Saudi Arabia has firmly denounced the recent terrorist attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthis, which targeted civilian and economic sites in several cities, resulting in injuries to 73 civilians, including women and children. This condemnation highlights the increasing tensions in the region and addresses the potential instability posed by such actions.

Escalating Threats from the Houthis

During an urgent session of the United Nations Security Council, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, outlined the severity of the Houthi militia’s assaults. He expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and its implications for both regional and global security. Alwasil emphasized that the ramifications extend beyond the Kingdom’s borders, jeopardizing international navigation and trade routes in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Call for a Unified International Response

In his address, Alwasil urged the UN Security Council to take a decisive stand against these aggressive acts. He insisted that the Council must fulfill its duty to uphold international peace and security by adopting clear policies against the Houthis’ militancy. He reiterated the importance of enforcing existing Security Council resolutions, urging member states to cease all support that enables the Houthi militia to perpetuate their hostile actions.

Saudi Arabia’s Right to Self-Defense

Alwasil reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens, in accordance with both the UN Charter and international law. This assertion underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to safeguarding not just its borders, but also the safety and security of its residents and national assets.

A Commitment to Yemen

Despite the ongoing conflict, Saudi Arabia continues to advocate for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The Kingdom’s position remains steadfast in supporting a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the Yemeni crisis. Alwasil emphasized that this solution should be driven by Yemenis themselves, aiming to achieve lasting security and fulfillment of the hopes of the Yemeni people.

In summary, Saudi Arabia’s response to the Houthi attacks illustrates a broader concern over the stability in the region and the need for united international action. As tensions persist, the Kingdom stands ready to defend its interests while also advocating for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
