CHIPOTLE LAUNCHES ITS FIRST RESTAURANT IN RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA

Chipotle Mexican Grill is making headlines as it prepares to launch its inaugural restaurant in Saudi Arabia at Sidra, located in Riyadh. This expansion into the Kingdom underscores Chipotle’s ongoing strategy to increase its footprint in the Middle East, in collaboration with the respected franchise partner, Alshaya Group.

Exciting New Location in Riyadh

Set to open later this month, Chipotle’s new venue is strategically placed next to the bustling Granada Mall, a premier shopping and leisure hub in Riyadh. This initiative marks a significant milestone in Chipotle’s international growth efforts and aligns with its mission to introduce its popular brand to new markets. With a diverse menu that includes burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas, and salads, the restaurant emphasizes the use of responsibly sourced ingredients and an open kitchen concept, allowing guests to customize meals to their preferences.

Partnership with Alshaya Group

Nate Lawton, Chief Business Development Officer at Chipotle, expressed enthusiasm about entering this dynamic consumer market. “Expanding into the Kingdom advances our international growth strategy,” he stated. Lawton highlighted Riyadh’s reputation as a major shopping destination, making it an ideal setting to reach both local residents and tourists. Together with Alshaya Group, Chipotle aims to deliver a memorable dining experience while establishing a long-lasting presence in Saudi Arabia.

Since its collaboration with Alshaya Group began in 2024, Chipotle has successfully opened 16 restaurants across various Middle Eastern countries, including Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Jeff Kellen, President of the Hospitality division at Alshaya Group, noted that Chipotle has quickly grown to be one of their most beloved brands, thanks to its fresh and delicious menu.

Continued Global Expansion

Chipotle is committed to expanding its international operations, currently boasting over 80 restaurants in Canada, 21 in the U.K., six in France, and two in Germany. Recently, it made its debut in Mexico, further diversifying its presence in the market. According to their plans, Chipotle expects to launch between 350 and 370 new restaurants in 2026 as part of its “Recipe for Growth” strategy, which includes a goal of reaching 7,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

Lawton’s team is actively seeking new strategic opportunities to accelerate the brand’s global expansion through partnerships and joint ventures. This proactive approach sets the stage for future growth in varied markets, ensuring Chipotle remains a leader in the fast-casual dining sector.
