Qiddiya Unveils National Tennis Centre with 30 Courts in Saudi Arabia

Qiddiya Investment Company is set to establish a remarkable 30-court National Tennis Centre in Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia. This ambitious project aims to create the largest tennis facility in the region, located just 45 kilometers west of Riyadh.

Design and Features of the National Tennis Centre

Designed by the renowned international sports architecture firm Populous, the National Tennis Centre will adhere to the strict standards set by the ATP, WTA, and ITF for all 30 courts. The centerpiece will be a main court featuring a capacity of 15,000 seats and equipped with a retractable roof. Additionally, a versatile arena with an 8,000-seat capacity will complement the main court, along with other courts designed for 2,000 and 5,000 spectators, bringing the total seating capacity to 33,000.

Of the 30 courts, 28 will feature hard surfaces, while the remaining two will be clay. Architects have integrated the stunning natural landscape of the Tuwaiq Mountains into the design, incorporating green facades that blend harmoniously with the terrain, enhancing both aesthetics and sustainability.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Community Engagement

The complex will house a variety of supporting facilities that cater to athletes and the community alike. Features will include a high-performance training center, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy suites, dedicated athlete recovery zones, player lounges, and media areas. Furthermore, the site will boast six indoor courts and 14 practice courts, making it an ideal venue for both elite competitions and grassroots training programs.

One of the standout features of the National Tennis Centre is its retractable roofs on both the main court and the multi-purpose arena. This flexibility allows the venue to host not only high-profile tennis events but also concerts, cultural activities, and various sporting events throughout the year, thereby maximizing its usage.

Vision 2030 and Future Developments

Abdullah Aldawood, the managing director of Qiddiya Investment Company, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are building a world-class home for tennis at every level. Here, the globe’s top players will compete, and the next generation of Saudi talent will flourish. This venue is intended for the citizens of Saudi Arabia and aims to enhance sports participation and tourism, aligning with our Vision 2030.”

The announcement of the National Tennis Centre is part of a broader initiative aimed at transforming Qiddiya City into a global entertainment hub. Recent developments include the Six Flags theme park, the Aquarabia water park, and PlayMaker Studios, a film production center. The tennis facility is conveniently located near an 18-hole golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, which is also expected to open later this year.

As Qiddiya takes strides toward becoming a premier destination for sports, entertainment, and recreation, the National Tennis Centre stands at the forefront, promising to elevate the sporting landscape in Saudi Arabia significantly. This innovative complex not only showcases the nation’s commitment to developing world-class facilities but also aims to inspire future generations to engage with sports.
