Saudi Arabia has ramped up enforcement of residency and labor laws, recently detaining over 11,000 individuals in a concentrated effort to address violations. Mass Arrests and Detentions
Between April 23 and April 29, authorities apprehended a total of 11,300 people through synchronized inspections that involved various government entities. The Ministry of Interior disclosed that the majority of arrests stemmed from residency law violations, which accounted for 6,244 individuals. Additionally, 3,543 people were detained for breaching border security protocols, while 1,513 faced charges related to labor offenses. This extensive operation underscores the nation’s zero-tolerance approach toward immigration violations.
Currently, authorities are processing legal actions against approximately 29,913 expatriates, comprised mainly of 27,699 men and 2,214 women. This highlights the ongoing scrutiny on foreign nationals residing in the kingdom, as the government aims to regularize and control immigration more effectively.
Deportations and Illegal Entry Attempts
Officials have reported significant actions taken against violators, with 14,855 individuals already deported and another 18,601 referred to their respective embassies to secure essential travel documents. Furthermore, 4,337 individuals are currently arranging for their departure from the kingdom. The Ministry of Interior has also indicated that 1,330 attempts at illegal entry were thwarted, with a notable proportion being Yemeni and Ethiopian nationals. Among those intercepted, 51 individuals were arrested while attempting to exit the country unlawfully. Crackdown on Facilitating Illegal Activities
The crackdown extends beyond illegal immigrants to include individuals who assist these violators. Authorities have detained 14 people for facilitating illegal stay and entry by providing employment, transport, or shelter. The Ministry has issued stern warnings about the repercussions of such actions, which can include imprisonment of up to 15 years and fines reaching SR1 million. Furthermore, assets such as vehicles and properties used in facilitating illegal activities risk seizure, amplifying the deterrent measures against any form of complicity in illegal immigration.
The ministry also encourages the public to report any violations using dedicated emergency numbers, with specific lines for Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province. This community engagement is aimed at furthering compliance and cooperation in enforcing these important regulations.
