Saudi Arabia’s Inaugural Automotive Brand Debuts with Bold Futuristic Designs

There’s a new player in the electric vehicle market, and it’s backed by significant royal investment. The startup, known as CEER, aims to stand out in a crowded field of automotive ventures, with support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Unlike many other startups that often fizzle out, CEER appears poised to make an impactful entry. However, its designs are undeniably unconventional.

CEER: A New Vision for Electric Vehicles

CEER has launched two initial models, both titled Exobot—one designed as a sedan and the other as an SUV. Their designs evoke a retro-futuristic aesthetic reminiscent of 1990s cinema, with angular shapes that suggest a bold departure from traditional automotive design. These vehicles feature a striking wedge shape and large glass panels in the doors, hinting at a unique interior experience.

Particular attention has been paid to the windshield of both models, which is touted as “the largest windshield ever produced.” With a pronounced tilt of only 15 degrees, it aims to enhance visibility and drive experience. Given the extreme temperatures in the region, CEER has prioritized cabin comfort with an innovative cooling feature, Halo Cooling, designed to reduce internal temperatures swiftly. It claims to cool an overheated cabin from 150°F to approximately 90°F in just ten minutes, a notable feature for those living in desert climates.

Performance and Specifications

The Exobot models boast impressive performance metrics, including up to 1,111 horsepower, which allows the sedan to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in a mere 2.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the SUV achieves that benchmark in 2.4 seconds. Additionally, an introductory model will offer 850 horsepower and a substantial 112 kWh battery, providing an impressive range of up to 415 miles. These specifications showcase CEER’s ambition to challenge existing players in the electric vehicle space.

CEER also incorporates advanced technology, such as steer-by-wire with a mere 160 degrees of input and rear-wheel steering. This technological edge could enhance driving dynamics significantly, appealing to both enthusiasts and everyday drivers.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Plans

Looking ahead, CEER aims to roll out seven new models within five years, including both midsize and compact vehicles. These new models will also be produced in a state-of-the-art factory planned for Saudi Arabia. CEER’s collaboration with Foxconn, a recognized electronics manufacturer, signifies another layer of credibility and technical expertise in its venture. Partnerships with Rimac and Hyundai Transys for electric drive systems bolster CEER’s capabilities in delivering quality electric vehicles.

However, CEER also faces significant challenges. The history of automotive startups is littered with businesses that had grand ideas but ultimately faltered. Nonetheless, CEER’s backing from the PIF may offer a lifeline that many of its predecessors lacked. The fund has previous experience with automotive ventures, evidenced by its substantial stake in Lucid Motors, which, while not yet profitable, indicates a long-term vision.

The Road Ahead for CEER

With powerful financial backing and a robust plan for the future, CEER’s entry into the electric vehicle market could mark a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning automotive ambitions. The company aims to establish itself as the first all-Saudi vehicle manufacturer, an endeavor that could reshape perceptions of regional automotive innovation. CEER’s unique designs, advanced features, and strong partnerships suggest a potentially exciting future, but only time will tell if it can transcend the pitfalls that have beset so many others in the industry.
