Tamarac is gearing up for its much-anticipated Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K, set to take place on Thursday, November 26, starting at 7:30 a.m. near the City Hall at 7525 NW 88th Ave. This event welcomes participants of all skills, whether they are seasoned runners or casual walkers, making it a festive occasion for the whole community.
Event Details and Registration
The Turkey Trot promises more than just a run; it will feature a pre-race stretching session and live music, creating an energetic atmosphere before the race begins. Participants will also enjoy food, refreshments, and vendor merchandise, along with giveaways throughout the event. Registration fees are structured in tiers: $30 until October 30, $35 from October 31 to November 17, and $40 from November 18 to November 25, depending on availability. Please note that there will be no registrations allowed on race day.
The first 2,000 registrants will receive a unique 2026 commemorative T-shirt, ensuring that every participant has a keepsake from this exciting event. Furthermore, those who finish the race while wearing their bibs will be awarded medals for their efforts. For top performers, trophies will be given to the first three overall male and female finishers, as well as age group winners.
Race Course and Road Closures
The race will start at Northwest 77th Street and Pine Island Road, winding south before turning east on Northwest 75th Street. Runners will head north on Northwest 80th Avenue and west on Northwest 81st Street, ultimately looping back to Pine Island Road for the finish line. For safety, roads along the course will be closed from 6:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., so plan your travel accordingly if you’re coming to support participants or volunteering.
Packet pick-up is available for participants at City Hall from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. from November 23 to 25, and also on race day starting at 6:30 a.m. This allows participants to ensure they have everything they need for the event without any last-minute stress.
Transportation and Further Information
Parking at City Hall will be limited, so a free shuttle service will run from the nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at 6931 NW 88th Ave., making it convenient for everyone to arrive at the event. Make sure to arrive early to secure a spot, whether you’re parking at the shuttle location or using other nearby parking options.
