This was highlighted by Bilal Alrais, vice president of the prominent technology event GITEX, who emphasized the country’s potential in driving innovation and business growth in the AI domain.
Türkiye: A Strategic AI Powerhouse
According to Alrais, Türkiye’s market scale, the caliber of its engineering talent, and its comprehensive understanding of AI applications position it as an ideal hub for tech startups. With supportive government policies, there are immense opportunities for both startups and small to medium enterprises to innovate and expand quickly. “Türkiye serves as an excellent sandbox for companies aiming to leverage AI technologies and scale their operations on a global level,” he stated.

The recent GITEX event saw participation from representatives across more than 70 countries, illustrating the growing global interest in Turkish technological advancements. Alrais noted the impressive presence of 120 startups at the event, further showcasing the vibrancy of the country’s tech ecosystem. Notably, about 10 or 11 distinct technology parks sent representatives directly to the exhibition, making a significant mark on the international scene. Alrais expressed his enthusiasm for Türkiye’s numerous Research and Development (R&D) centers, stating that these institutions are pivotal in producing exciting new technologies that captivate global audiences. The Rising Demand for Data Centers Post-COVID
Looking ahead, Alrais shared insights about GITEX’s upcoming Abu Dhabi edition, which is set to be the largest AI gathering in the world this October. Plans are underway to expand the organization’s global reach with new events scheduled for Latin America, Italy, and Serbia, indicating a growing emphasis on AI across different regions.
Alrais noted that the industry focus on AI has rapidly accelerated following the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduction of ChatGPT, reshaping how organizations view technology. A significant consequence of this shift is the heightened demand for data centers, as Alrais pointed out, “You can’t have AI without a data center.” This surge in data center requirements brings its own set of challenges, particularly in energy management, which the industry must confront to support this rapid technological advancement.
