Turkey is steadfastly working towards its ambition of becoming a powerful and esteemed global player in the space industry, according to President Erdogan.

Türkiye is steadfast in its commitment to becoming a prominent player in the global space sector, as stated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. During the inauguration of the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, he emphasized the nation’s strides in satellite technology and lunar exploration, all while urging for more international collaboration in space endeavors.

Ambitious Space Goals

Erdogan proclaimed that Türkiye will not waver in its ambitions until it secures a respected place among global space actors. He pointed out the significant advancements made by Türkiye in recent years, indicating that despite various challenges, the nation has rapidly progressed in the space race. He mentioned that the production, assembly, and integration of a lunar spacecraft developed under the country’s Lunar Research Program have been successfully completed. This spacecraft boasts a weight of approximately 3.5 tons and features an impressive domestic production rate of over 80%, which Erdogan described as a point of national pride.

In addition to lunar exploration, Erdoğan spotlighted Turksat 6A, Türkiye’s self-developed communications satellite. He explained that the successful launch and deployment of Turksat 6A demonstrate Türkiye’s engineering prowess and robust industrial infrastructure. This satellite serves as a testament to the country’s confidence and capabilities in the field of space technology.

TEKNOFEST and Growing Interest

Erdogan also highlighted the immense interest in Türkiye’s major aerospace and technology festival, TEKNOFEST, which saw participation from more than 730,000 teams across Türkiye’s 81 provinces and 97 countries worldwide. This indicates a growing enthusiasm for technology and innovation among the Turkish populace, particularly in the field of aerospace.

The president also brought attention to a pertinent project in Somalia, where Türkiye is working on establishing a spaceport. This initiative aims not only to enhance Türkiye’s access to outer space but also to contribute positively to Africa’s developmental goals in its burgeoning space ecosystem. Through this project, Türkiye seeks to foster international partnerships and bolster technological advancements across the continent.

An Inclusive Space Race

Erdogan strongly asserted that the space race should not be limited to a select few nations. He criticized endeavors to weaponize outer space, stating that it is unjust to treat it as a prize for the fastest competitor. He expressed concern that using space for military purposes and as a means for an arms race is fundamentally misguided. This perspective calls for a more collaborative approach to space exploration, emphasizing that the ultimate goal should be the benefit of all humanity, not just the interests of a few.

As Türkiye hosts the Congress for the first time, Erdogan expressed hope that this event would lead to fruitful dialogues and collaborations among participating nations. He believes that the discussions during the congress could significantly impact not only the involved countries but also the future of mankind in space exploration. The gathering unites the global space community in Antalya, fostering an environment ripe for innovation and cooperation.

In conclusion, Türkiye’s space ambitions are set to make waves on the international stage. With substantial advancements in technology and a commitment to collaboration, Türkiye aims to redefine its position in the global space arena, pushing for inclusiveness and shared progress for all nations.
