ADNOC Releases Eighth Spot Tender Since June as UAE Increases Crude Exports

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has recently issued its eighth spot tender since June 2023, highlighting its strategy to increase crude oil sales to international markets. As the United Arab Emirates continues to navigate its new position outside of OPEC, ADNOC aims to maintain and expand its market presence amidst evolving global dynamics.

Expanded Offerings in Latest Tender

In this latest spot tender, ADNOC is providing cargoes of Upper Zakum, Umm Lulu, and Das crude grades, available for loading in October and November. This move allows buyers flexibility in their purchasing options, as ADNOC offers free-on-board terms at various locations, including Fujairah Storage and Das Island. Additionally, there is an option for transfers in the Fujairah-Sohar range, which is strategically located outside the Strait of Hormuz, or even in Malaysia, facilitating global trade routes for these valuable resources.

Successful Sales and Increasing Production

Historically, ADNOC has been successful in its crude sales, with estimates suggesting that the company sold over 90 million barrels through spot tenders since early June. This surge in selling is bolstered by a unique shuttle service that enables crude to be shipped directly to tankers in open waters, effectively circumventing challenges posed by geographical choke points. The previous tender at the end of July anticipated selling millions of barrels from August to October, underscoring ADNOC’s capability in meeting market demand.

Resilient Strategies Amidst Market Challenges

Despite its exit from OPEC on May 1, the UAE has demonstrated resilience through innovative strategies to facilitate its oil exports. These strategies include utilizing a network of pipelines to transport crude efficiently across the country, ensuring minimal disruption as oil moves to larger ships outside the Strait. By employing methods such as “dark mode” shipping, the UAE has maintained a steady flow of exports and solidified its position within the oil market, even in the face of geopolitical tensions.

Record-Breaking Production Levels

Recent data indicate that the UAE reached an impressive production level of 4.1 million barrels per day in June, marking the highest output in its history. This production milestone signifies the nation’s commitment to enhancing its crude oil capabilities, positioning itself advantageously within an increasingly competitive global market. Vessel-tracking data suggests that over the months of June and July, the UAE outperformed its Gulf counterparts in crude oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, reflecting its operational efficiency and strategic planning.

In summary, ADNOC’s latest activities showcase its ongoing commitment to maximizing its crude oil exports. Through innovative strategies and an effective tender process, the UAE continues to navigate complex market conditions while asserting itself as a key player in the global oil industry.
