Saudi Arabia has once again claimed the Gulf Cup championship, marking their fourth title victory after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 2-0 in the final of the Gulf Cup 27. This exciting match took place in Jeddah, with fans filling Alinma Stadium.

Early Goals Secure the Win

The Saudi team showcased their strength from the very beginning, seizing the lead just 11 minutes into the match. Hammam al Hammami’s fierce shot deflected off a UAE defender and found its way into the net, sparking jubilation among the Saudi supporters. Three minutes later, Firas al Buraikan doubled the score with a powerful left-footed strike following a swift offensive move. The early goals set the tone for the match, leaving the UAE to scramble for a response.

Despite the quick start, Saudi Arabia nearly increased their lead in the 16th minute when Saleh Abu Al Shamat’s shot hit the right post. As the first half progressed, the UAE started to find their rhythm and managed to create their best opportunity of the half at the 29-minute mark, only to be denied by a crucial save from Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed al Owais. This defensive effort maintained Saudi Arabia’s 2-0 advantage heading into the break.

VAR Drama and Defensive Mastery

The match took another turn in the 38th minute when the UAE were awarded a penalty kick. However, after a review by the VAR, the decision was overturned, leaving the UAE players and fans in disbelief. At halftime, while Saudi Arabia held a dominant possession of 56%, there were no cards issued, highlighting the clean play exhibited by both teams.

The second half featured tactical adjustments from both coaches, with Saudi Arabia focusing on squashing UAE’s attempts to launch counterattacks. The play was concentrated mainly in midfield, and while the UAE pressed for a goal, they struggled to penetrate Saudi Arabia’s well-organized defense. Substitutions were critical as Saudi Arabia sought to regain possession and slow down their opponents’ momentum.

Celebrating Champions

As the clock wound down, Saudi Arabia managed to keep the UAE at bay, holding onto their 2-0 lead until the final whistle blew. The officiating team was led by Moroccan referee Jalal Jaid, accompanied by assistant referees Zakaria Brinsi and Mustapha Akarkad. With this victory, Saudi Arabia etched their name in Gulf Cup history alongside their previous wins in 1994, 2002, and 2003.

Throughout the tournament, Saudi Arabia’s consistent performance earned them their fourth Gulf Cup title, solidifying their position as a dominant force in regional football. The final match against the UAE brought their historical encounters to a close, with Saudi Arabia winning five of the eight meetings they’ve had in the Gulf Cup series.

As the curtain falls on Gulf Cup 27, fans are already looking ahead to the next edition, which will be hosted by Iraq in December 2028. With hopes of future successes, the teams will regroup as they embark on new ambitions for the upcoming Gulf Cup chapter.
