Engage with the UAE to expand your business opportunities.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) offers a wealth of opportunities for British businesses looking to expand their reach. With a strong economic foundation and significant investments flowing between the two nations, now is the ideal time for UK companies to engage with this vibrant market.

The UAE as a Gateway to New Markets

Strategically positioned at the crossroads of Asia, Europe, and Africa, the UAE serves as a critical hub for trade, energy, capital, and technology. For British businesses, this geographical advantage translates into unique opportunities for growth and expansion. The UK and UAE share a robust trade relationship, estimated at around £25 billion annually. More than 14,000 British companies are actively exporting goods and services to the UAE, showcasing a sustainable and prosperous partnership.

British investments in the UAE aren’t just one-way. Approximately 1.5 million visitors from the UK travel to the Emirates each year, with over 100,000 British expatriates residing there. This community has established deep-rooted connections that can potentially drive business collaborations and innovations across various sectors.

Building Lasting Relationships for Long-Term Success

Historically, the UAE-UK relationship has been grounded in trust and mutual benefit, long before the UAE was officially established in 1971. Effective business partnerships rely on strong relationships as much as financial returns. The UAE-UK Sovereign Investment Partnership, launched in 2021, exemplifies this reliance on mutual trust and cooperation. Results show that this partnership has already generated 159 investments, bolstering an estimated 200,000 jobs within the UK.

As the chair of the UAE-UK Business Council, I envision leveraging this successful partnership to establish a dedicated free trade agreement between the UK and UAE. This is an essential move to complement the existing UK-GCC free trade agreement and would pave the way for enhanced economic ties.

The Importance of Stability in Supply Chains

Given the interconnected nature of global supply chains, a stable environment is crucial for businesses relying on imports and exports. The UAE plays an indispensable role in global supply chain stability, especially for essential commodities like oil and fertilizers. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for a significant percentage of the world’s oil and fertilizer, highlights the importance of maintaining operational capacity in the Gulf.

Throughout recent challenges, the UAE has consistently kept its ports and airports running smoothly. This reliable infrastructure is critical not only for British businesses but also for local households that rely on these goods and services.

Forging Ahead with Ambition and Reliability

My ambition for the Business Council is to create a space where leading companies can convene to share ideas and develop actionable partnerships in key sectors like artificial intelligence, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. The focus will be on establishing collaborative frameworks that benefit both UK and UAE markets.

The UAE stands as a testament to the blend of reliability and ambition, making it an ideal partner for British firms seeking sustainable growth. The invitation is clear: seize the moment and get involved. The opportunities that lie ahead are not to be missed.
