Revolutionary MRO Facility in the UAE
Emirates Airlines has recently unveiled plans for a groundbreaking maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in Dubai South. This ambitious $5.1 billion engineering hub aims to create one of the most advanced MRO centers globally, cementing Dubai’s status as a leader in the aviation industry. Covering over 11 million square feet, this state-of-the-art complex will be capable of servicing 28 wide-body aircraft simultaneously, among various other specialized services.

The proposed facility will feature numerous innovative sections, including two dedicated painting hangars and the largest specialized landing gear workshop in the world. An extensive maintenance workshop, exceeding 800,000 square feet, will support diverse repair operations, while the facility will provide over 4 million square feet dedicated to storage and logistics. Additionally, the expansion will accommodate more than 538,000 square feet of office space and 161,000 square feet of training facilities.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates’ Chairman and Chief Executive, emphasized that this new development aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. “The facility enhances Emirates Engineering’s vertical integration strategy by consolidating skills, parts production, and building specialist capabilities all under one roof. This positioning will enable us to become a pivotal engineering partner for both regional and global aviation demands,” he noted.
