UAE and Saudi Arabia Increase Imports of Brazilian Chicken

Brazil’s chicken meat exports are experiencing significant growth, with rising demand from international markets proving beneficial for the country’s agricultural sector. Recent data underscores the continued importance of both the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia as major importers of Brazilian chicken, reflecting broader trends in global food trade.

Growth in Exports to Key Markets

The latest figures from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) reveal that in August, Brazil exported 44,200 tonnes of chicken meat to the United Arab Emirates, marking a remarkable increase of 35.9% compared to the same month in the previous year. Similarly, Saudi Arabia saw a 29.9% rise in its chicken imports from Brazil, reaching 35,100 tonnes. These developments highlight the significance of the UAE and Saudi Arabia as crucial markets for Brazilian poultry.

In total, Brazil exported approximately 50,900 tonnes of chicken meat to China in August, making it the top destination for Brazilian exports. The UAE followed in second place, while the European Union, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa constituted the remaining spots in the top five importers. This regional diversification illustrates Brazil’s growing influence in the global poultry market.

Boost in Export Revenue and Volume

August proved to be a lucrative month for Brazil’s chicken meat sector, with total exports valued at an impressive US$997.8 million, an increase of 42.7% from the same month in 2022. The overall tonnage reached 492,600, up 24.8% from August of the previous year, when the industry was coping with the aftermath of an avian influenza outbreak. In previous months, major buyers like China and the EU had to either reduce or cease their imports due to an embargo, but the recent upward trends indicate a strong recovery and renewed confidence in the quality of Brazilian poultry.

For the year-to-date, Brazilian chicken meat exports have amassed a total revenue of US$7.6 billion, reflecting a notable growth rate of 21.9% compared to the same time frame last year. In terms of volume, exports have achieved 3.9 million tonnes, an increase of 15.5%. These statistics not only demonstrate the resilience of the industry but also highlight the effective strategies employed by Brazilian exporters to penetrate various international markets.

International Demand and Quality Assurance

ABPA President Ricardo Santin commented on the robust growth in international shipments, emphasizing the overall strength of global demand for Brazilian chicken. He also pointed out that the diversification of export destinations enhances the stability of the sector. Santin underscored the confidence international buyers have in Brazilian poultry, which is attributable to its quality standards and production practices. The leading exporting states contributing to this burgeoning sector include Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Goiás.

As Brazil continues to secure its position in the global poultry market, the outlook for future exports remains optimistic. The combination of increasing international demand and a commitment to quality will likely propel Brazilian chicken meat exports to even greater heights in the months to come. With established relationships in key markets and ongoing expansion efforts, Brazil is well-positioned to leverage its agricultural strengths to meet the diverse needs of a growing global population.
