Michael Emmanuel Swinton, a 30-year-old soldier from Fayetteville, North Carolina, tragically lost his life during a controlled explosion involving a downed Iranian drone on July 19 at Erbil Air Base in Iraq. Sgt. Swinton served with D Battery, 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, part of the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bragg. Swinton’s body would be returning to Fayetteville on Monday at approximately 1:30 p.m. Following arrival, the Rider group will escort his remains to Pinecrest Funeral Home, located at 4721 Dubrobin Drive, Hope Mills, NC.

A celebration of life in memory of Sgt. Swinton will take place on Saturday, August 8. The event will include a public viewing from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at Southview Baptist Church in Hope Mills, at 4089 Elk Road. This gathering will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to pay their respects and honor a man who dedicated his life to serving others.
