Türkiye’s civil aviation industry is experiencing remarkable growth, as highlighted by the latest statistics from the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry’s Civil Aviation General Directorate. With an impressive fleet of 846 aircraft and a seating capacity of 166,000, the sector is making significant strides on both domestic and international fronts.
Growth in Civil Aviation Performance
In the first half of the year, Türkiye’s civil aviation sector showed notable progress. The country has climbed to the fifth position in Europe according to the Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft Program (SAFA). This upward trend is not merely statistical; it reflects the government’s efforts in enhancing air travel safety and reliability. Additionally, through a series of eight international negotiations, Turkish civil aviation secured 22 new flight frequencies along with unlimited cargo flight rights with Canada, further solidifying its global presence.
Passenger and Cargo Statistics
During the initial six months of this year, the number of air travelers soared to 111 million. Of these, 50 million opted for domestic flights, while approximately 61 million traveled internationally. This uptick indicates a strong demand for air travel, signaling a robust recovery from past challenges faced by the industry. Cargo transport also witnessed impressive figures, with nearly 2.5 million metric tons moved within the same period. Approximately 441,000 metric tons were transported domestically, and around 2.1 million metric tons were carried on international routes.

There are 14 airlines, 49 air taxi operators, 101 general aviation operators, and numerous specialized services such as hot-air balloon and ultralight aircraft operations, further enriching the sector. Expanding Global Connections and Safety Inspections
Türkiye’s aviation connections are spreading wider, with air transport agreements now established with 175 countries. This expansion highlights the country’s commitment to bolstering its international aviation relationships. On the safety front, authorities performed a total of 838 inspections, including 287 focused on airworthiness and 334 related to flight operations. These proactive measures demonstrate a dedication to maintaining high safety standards throughout the industry.
Furthermore, a robust strategy for the second half of the year is set in motion. This includes intensified oversight through continuous monitoring programs for aircraft maintenance organizations and flight suppliers. A comprehensive security agenda will also unfold, featuring airport security audits and cybersecurity inspections aimed at upholding international safety protocols.
