Foreign Minister and Jordanian counterpart explore relations and regional issues.

The recent meeting between Egyptian and Jordanian foreign ministers highlighted the strong ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, underscored their dedication to fostering partnerships across multiple sectors.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During their discussions, both ministers emphasized the unique and robust nature of Egyptian-Jordanian relations. They pledged to deepen their collaboration not only on a bilateral basis but also within a broader regional framework, particularly by advancing the trilateral cooperation mechanism that includes Iraq. This approach aims to translate their collective potential into actionable joint projects that will bolster economic integration and promote mutual interests between their populations.

Tackling Regional Issues

The ministers also addressed critical regional challenges, including the ongoing Palestinian situation. They discussed the comprehensive implementation of initiatives aimed at stabilizing Gaza, ensuring humanitarian aid distribution, and creating conducive conditions for the Palestinian Authority to regain its responsibilities. Their dialogue reflected a shared commitment to advocating for peace and stability in the region.

Moreover, they expressed concern over the increasing tensions in the occupied West Bank. Both officials firmly rejected any actions that would lead to further annexation, settlement expansions, or violence against civilians. They reiterated the significance of preserving the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt’s unwavering support for the Hashemite custodianship over these sacred locations.

Combating External Threats

In light of recent events, the two foreign ministers denounced Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and other neighboring Arab states. Abdelatty conveyed Egypt’s full solidarity with Jordan as it navigates these security challenges, which pose threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This solidarity underscores the importance of regional cooperation in the face of external aggressions.

Upcoming Arab League Meetings

The conversation also encompassed preparations for the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States, scheduled to take place at its Cairo headquarters. The ministers examined the agenda for this significant meeting, along with discussions regarding the Arab Ministerial Committee focused on responding to illegal Israeli actions in occupied Jerusalem. Their collaborative efforts aim to unify Arab positions on pressing issues, reinforcing the need for coordinated action within the region.

Through this bilateral meeting, Egypt and Jordan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their cooperative frameworks and addressing regional challenges. As they move forward, the focus remains on fostering regional stability, advocating for the rights of Palestinians, and confronting external threats, all while promoting economic integration and shared development.
