Planning Minister Engages with Fitch Leaders During Egypt’s Credit Rating Assessment – Daily News Egypt

Ahmed Rostom, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, recently engaged with a prominent delegation from Fitch Ratings to discuss Egypt’s economic performance amid ongoing geopolitical challenges. This meeting provided an opportunity to review key indicators and highlight the government’s commitment to advancing economic reforms.

Egypt’s Economic Growth Surge

Rostom announced that Egypt’s economy experienced a notable growth rate of 5.1% for the fiscal year 2025/2026, a marked increase from the previous year’s approximate growth of 4.4%. This rebound can largely be attributed to robust expansion across several sectors, especially in non-petroleum manufacturing, communications, and information technology—industries that significantly contribute to economic value.

Resilience of Key Economic Sectors

The minister also pointed out the resilience within the transport and logistics sector, particularly highlighting the ongoing growth of Suez Canal revenues despite the challenges affecting global shipping dynamics. These developments reflect the Egyptian economy’s ability to endure external pressures and adapt to changing circumstances successfully.

Impressive Macroeconomic Indicators

Rostom reviewed positive trends in macroeconomic indicators, indicating that government policies have effectively put inflation on a downward trajectory. In August 2026, the inflation rate reached 12.7%, showcasing the effectiveness of fiscal measures in stabilizing prices. Moreover, the labor market has shown considerable strength, with unemployment rates declining to 5.8% in the second quarter of 2026, a testament to the economy’s capacity to generate jobs and support workforce participation.

Commitment to Economic Transformation

Emphasizing the government’s dedication to economic and structural transformation, Rostom stated that various policies have been implemented to create a favorable investment landscape. This strategy aims to attract both domestic and foreign investment, particularly in export-oriented and labor-intensive sectors. The overarching goal of these reforms goes beyond enhancing financial indicators; they are geared towards elevating the living standards of Egyptian citizens and improving the quality of services available to them.

Looking ahead, the minister offered an optimistic economic outlook, forecasting a continued recovery with growth expected to range between 5.2% and 5.4% in the current fiscal year. This anticipated growth is largely fueled by increased private-sector investment and positive developments in promising economic sectors. As these efforts take shape, the focus remains on ensuring that the benefits of economic progress are experienced broadly within society.
