Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, outlined a comprehensive plan that includes a complete cessation of hostilities across the Middle East, notably in Lebanon. This plan also aims to revive a ceasefire agreement that unraveled months ago during turmoil over the Strait. The initial agreement entailed the release of Iranian assets that had been frozen, an end to sanctions imposed on Iranian oil, and the removal of the U.S. naval blockade in the area.
Araghchi stated firmly, “Our conditions are clear, and any advancement toward the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is contingent upon these preconditions. We will not retract our demands.” He went on to emphasize that although Iran has always been open to diplomacy, it refuses to compromise on its rights and interests.

In response, President Trump expressed skepticism about the Iranian proposal, stating that they were eager to negotiate because they were suffering losses on multiple fronts. “They want to make a deal where they open the Strait immediately because they’re losing so badly,” Trump remarked, acknowledging the desire to reach an agreement but also highlighting a lack of immediate resolution.
Araghchi noted that Iran was still awaiting a concrete response from international mediators following the initial interactions with the U.S. “We are waiting for the mediators to convey the definitive positions to us, and we will make a decision based on them,” he mentioned, highlighting the importance of multi-party discussions in reaching a potential agreement.

Iranian authorities require that all ships obtain permission before traversing this strategic passage, which they cite as a matter of sovereignty and security. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, criticized the international community’s inaction in maintaining stability in vital maritime corridors such as the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi also mentioned that Iran conveyed a detailed seven-day plan through Qatar, indicating that if the essential conditions are met, normal maritime operations in the Strait could resume within that timeframe.
“The choice now rests with the United States,” Araghchi asserted. He made it clear that Iran will not yield to coercive tactics or threats and will stand firm in defending its sovereign rights. Meanwhile, remarks from Hossein Mohebi, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, reinforced Tehran’s position: “We will not cease punishing the U.S. until Iran’s seven conditions are met.” This statement includes demands for an end to hostilities in Yemen, highlighting the complex web of issues involved in resolving this protracted conflict.
