Qatar at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum: Investments, Food Security, and Economic Diversification – Updates and Insights

Qatar participated in the eighth Bloomberg New Economy Forum from October 13 to 15, 2026, in New Delhi. The State of Qatar was represented by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani. The forum brought together various global leaders, including heads of state, ministers, and over 500 representatives from public and private sectors. This high-level gathering focused on addressing current economic challenges and opportunities globally.

Investment Climate and Economic Resilience

Minister Al-Thani emphasized the crucial elements driving investment into Qatar during a session on promoting private sector growth and economic resilience. He highlighted the nation’s robust economic fundamentals, an inviting regulatory framework, sound fiscal policies, and ongoing investments in infrastructure as primary factors that sustain investor confidence. These attributes make Qatar an attractive destination for foreign investors looking to expand their portfolios in a stable environment.

Regional Adversities and Strategic Resilience

Discussing regional challenges, the minister reassured that Qatar has maintained a steady flow of goods despite the pressures on the oil and gas sectors. He reported a significant 40% increase in the country’s strategic food reserves since the onset of recent crises, ensuring the nation’s needs are continually met. This highlights Qatar’s ability to navigate complex regional issues effectively while securing essential commodities.

Foreign Investment Activity and Business Environment

Al-Thani noted that investors can distinguish between transient disruptions and deeper, structural issues. He revealed that over 5,000 foreign entities registered in Doha within just three months, alongside substantial foreign capital inflows into local markets. The minister stressed the importance of quickly addressing the needs of the private sector, simplifying regulatory hurdles, and enhancing legislation that broadens foreign ownership in numerous sectors. This focus on improving the business environment positions Qatar favorably for continued international investment.

Opportunities in Public-Private Partnerships

Another focal point of the minister’s remarks was the critical role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in stimulating economic growth. As Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Doha Investment, he underscored the importance of offering a transparent regulatory framework to encourage private sector involvement in key development areas such as education, healthcare, and industry. These align with Qatar’s National Development Strategy, which aims to diversify the economy and fortify the private sector’s role in driving progress.

Future-Focused Sectors and Global Connectivity

Minister Al-Thani highlighted the prospects of data center development, noting how the importance of data sovereignty combined with Qatar’s abundant energy resources gives it a competitive edge in this expanding industry. He pointed out that the interconnectedness of global economies makes isolation increasingly impractical, underscoring the need for collaboration and adaptation in facing contemporary challenges.

Forum Goals and Themes

The minister’s engagement in the forum aimed to enhance international economic partnerships, showcase the investment benefits of Qatar, and strengthen ties with global companies and financial entities. The overarching goals include attracting high-quality investments, fostering private sector development, and fortifying the national economy in alignment with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. This year’s theme, “A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power,” addresses the ramifications of geopolitical shifts, technological advancements, and evolving supply chains, equipping attendees with insights to navigate future opportunities and challenges.
