QFFD and QRCS Collaborate to Enhance Healthcare for Refugees in Bangladesh

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), in collaboration with BRAC International from Bangladesh, has initiated a crucial health care initiative for Rohingya refugees located in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS). This partnership aims to provide significant assistance in the health sector to one of the most disenfranchised populations in the region.

Project Overview and Objectives

The health care project has been underway for five months, focusing on improving access to necessary and ongoing health services for the Rohingya community. Its primary goal is to deliver comprehensive primary health care that includes medical consultations, maternal and child health services, follow-up care for chronic illnesses, as well as mental health and psychosocial support. Additional services comprise community health education and identifying cases that require more specialized care in hospitals. By addressing these diverse needs, the project aims to uplift the health status of refugees significantly.

Target Demographics: Women and Children

A significant focus of the initiative is on under-five children and women of reproductive age. These groups often experience heightened vulnerabilities in health crises, and tailored access to healthcare services is essential for their wellbeing. Providing specific healthcare solutions for these demographics ensures that the project offers a holistic approach, catering to the distinct needs that arise within this refugee population. This focused intervention not only promotes better health outcomes but also fosters a healthier community environment.

Impact and Future Goals

As of late September 2026, the project had successfully reached 10,937 beneficiaries, moving towards its goal of 20,135 direct beneficiaries within the span of one year. This achievement underscores the commitment of both QFFD and QRCS to support vulnerable communities affected by crises. By leveraging their strategic partnership, they aim to ensure that refugee populations are provided with essential humanitarian services. The sustained efforts reflect a dedication to improving the living conditions and health standards for those involved, reinforcing the importance of continuous support in humanitarian efforts.

The collaboration between QFFD, BRAC International, and QRCS is a promising model for addressing health care deficiencies in refugee populations. By maintaining focus on accessible, inclusive, and effective health services, this initiative aims not only to meet immediate health needs but also to lay the groundwork for a more sustainable health care framework moving forward. The success of this project could potentially serve as a blueprint for similar humanitarian initiatives worldwide, emphasizing the need for targeted approaches that take into account the unique challenges faced by displaced communities.

In conclusion, the health care initiative for Rohingya refugees highlights the significance of strategic partnerships in addressing critical health issues. Through comprehensive services aimed at women and children, and a clear focus on measurable impact, this project exemplifies how effective collaboration can lead to meaningful change in the lives of the most vulnerable populations.
