Turkey’s Foreign Minister has intensified allegations against Greece regarding the militarization of Aegean islands designated as demilitarized. These statements have been firmly dismissed by Greek officials, who view them as part of a broader pattern of escalating tensions between the two nations.

During a recent address in Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan asserted that Greece’s militarization efforts pose a significant threat to Turkey. This assertion surfaced just as Greece and Cyprus were set to renew plans for the Great Sea Interconnector electric cable project under French auspices, alongside a flurry of arms agreements with Israel that will see advanced weaponry deployed to various islands.
