Arkia Halts Evacuation Flights Leaving Israelis Stuck in Dubai

Nava Koster, an Israeli traveler currently stuck in Dubai, expressed her frustration as her alternative flight plan, which was set for Thursday, was also scrapped. Speaking to Walla on Wednesday, she stated, “All the rescue flights have been canceled.” The uncertainty surrounding her return to Israel has left Koster and her tour group in disarray.

Lack of Clear Communication

Despite claims of ongoing efforts to assist stranded Israelis in the UAE, Koster and fellow tourists are still unsure about their options for returning home. Koster initially traveled to Sri Lanka on September 27 with Eshet Tours and was scheduled to fly back on October 6 through Dubai. This itinerary, however, has been greatly disrupted due to a prior incident that affected flights to Israel, resulting in significant cancellations.

Koster alleged that Eshet Tours has cut ties with the stranded group, leaving them without lodging, transportation, or meals. “I believe we are not the only Israeli group left in Dubai,” she noted, pointing out the isolation felt by her party due to the lack of support.

Struggles with Self-Booking

In a bid to return home, members of Koster’s group attempted to arrange alternate flights on their own. Unfortunately, they found that most of these flights were either fully booked or exceedingly costly. Koster described the financial strain, stating that for a family of seven, replacement tickets could run into thousands of dollars.

Moreover, the plight is exacerbated for two elderly group members who require medication, making the protracted wait particularly alarming for their health. Koster reached out to media outlets, requesting investigations into how many Israelis remain stranded in Dubai and what assistance exists for those unable to afford new travel arrangements.

Disparities in Reports and Reality

“There is a significant gap between the reported ‘rescue flights’ and our actual experience on the ground,” Koster conveyed. Her group remains in limbo, desperately awaiting news that could facilitate their journeys back home. The ongoing cancellations and lack of help have sparked growing concern among affected travelers.

Cancellation of Additional Flights

Adding to the distressing situation, Israeli airline Arkia recently announced the cancellation of its rescue flights from Dubai to Israel. The airline cited a sudden revocation of permits for Israeli airlines to operate in Dubai, despite their efforts to secure appropriate authorizations. As a result, stranded passengers face further delays and an uncertain timeline for their return to Israel.

Eshet Tours has acknowledged the distress faced by travelers but emphasized their ongoing commitment to assist those still abroad. They claim to remain in contact with passengers and are actively seeking alternatives to facilitate their return as soon as possible.

This unfolding situation highlights the challenges confronted by travelers in crisis and the need for reliable communication from airlines and tour operators. The plight of Koster and her fellow travelers serves as a pressing reminder of the complexities associated with international travel in uncertain times.
