Leaders from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt participated in this conference. The event was confirmed by CENTCOM, which noted that it presented vital opportunities for military representatives from these nations to collaborate on security strategies. However, the meeting was kept under wraps and was not publicly announced prior to its occurrence.
Saudi political expert Abdulaziz Al-Shaabani offered insights into the implications of this gathering, warning against misconstruing it as a precursor to formal military ties between Riyadh and Tel Aviv. He suggested that any potential intelligence-sharing would likely be modest and pragmatic, and that Saudi Arabia would continue to prioritize its independent security framework and regional alliances.

Despite lacking formal diplomatic relations, Saudi Arabia and Israel share mutual apprehensions regarding the threats posed by Iran and the Houthi movement in Yemen. In July, CENTCOM revealed that the US and its regional allies were operating within a comprehensive air and missile defense framework. An air defense coordination cell, established earlier this year, aims to improve the sharing of intelligence, threat assessments, and responses to crises affecting the region.
This meeting comes against the backdrop of increased Houthi aggression aimed at Saudi Arabia. According to reports, the group has recently intensified its offensive, successfully seizing control of the Yemeni city of Mocha and Perim Island, thus bolstering its position near the strategically significant Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Saudi authorities reported intercepting a Houthi drone targeting areas south of Mecca, though the Houthi group denied any intentions to hit the city.
The Role of the United States
Amid these tensions, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has solicited military assistance from the United States. However, US support has been limited to intelligence sharing and targeted assistance rather than direct military strikes against Houthi forces. Additionally, US officials have engaged in discussions with Houthi representatives in Oman, although the State Department has yet to confirm these meetings officially.
