Qatar Tourism Honors Tour Guides at ‘Heritage of Guides’ Event

Qatar Tourism recently celebrated the accomplishments of 147 participants in its tour guide training and youth development programs during the “Legacy of Guides: Generation to Generation” ceremony, held at the Oasis Stage in the Mall of Qatar. This event highlighted the commitment to enhancing the skills of young individuals and experienced guides alike, contributing significantly to the country’s tourism sector.

Cultivating Future Tour Guides

Among the participants recognized were those who completed four distinct training initiatives. The Junior Tour Guide Summer Camp 2026 welcomed 110 children eager to explore Qatar’s rich cultural landscape. Additionally, the “Guiding the Next Generation” Train-the-Trainer Programme enabled eight licensed Qatari tour guides to share their expertise by mentoring aspiring guides. The Youth Tour Guide Training Programme saw 19 participants eager to learn the nuances of guiding, while the Tour Guide Licensing Programme honored 11 individuals who obtained their professional certification.

Investing in Local Talent

At the ceremony, Omar Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Director of Operations Affairs at Qatar Tourism, emphasized the significance of tour guides in enriching the visitor experience. He stated, “Tour guides are an important part of the visitor experience, bringing Qatar’s culture, heritage, and stories to life.” His comments underscored the importance of developing local talent as part of Qatar’s broader tourism strategy. The Service Excellence Academy’s role in nurturing young talent and enhancing skill sets is crucial for delivering exceptional visitor experiences and fostering the sustainable development of the tourism sector.

Celebrating Partnerships and Contributions

The event also acknowledged the vital contributions of partners and trainers involved in these training programs. Those who hosted educational visits and training sessions were commended for their efforts in shaping the participants’ experiences throughout the year. Such collaborative efforts are essential for the development of high-quality educational frameworks that serve to empower the next generation of tour guides.

Expanding Opportunities in Tourism

The Tour Guide Training Programme, initiated in 2016 in collaboration with Qatar Youth Hostels, is now entering its fourth iteration, showcasing the program’s ongoing success. Notably, the Junior Tour Guide Summer Camp has also completed its second edition in 2026, reflecting the enduring interest in fostering youth engagement with Qatar’s tourism. This year marks a significant milestone with the debut of the Youth Tour Guide Training Programme, designed to prepare participants for roles in guiding and create further opportunities for them in the tourism sector.

Through these comprehensive tour guide development initiatives, Qatar Tourism solidifies its commitment to building local capabilities and nurturing a robust talent pipeline. Such efforts not only enhance individual skills but also contribute to the sustainable growth and flourishing of Qatar’s tourism industry. By investing in training and empowering the youth, Qatar is setting the stage for a vibrant future where local talent plays a key role in the nation’s hospitality landscape.
