Global Security Forum Kicks Off Today Focused on ‘The Future of Alliances’ Theme

The Global Security Forum (GSF) is a pivotal event that opens today in Doha, Qatar, under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. This eighth edition of GSF gathers senior officials and delegates from over 100 countries, aiming to dissect the dynamics of global alliances and collective security in an increasingly complex international landscape.

The Importance of GSF 2026: A Timely Dialogue on Security

Running until October 21, with the theme “The Future of Alliances,” this year’s forum is ideally timed amidst rising geopolitical tensions, regional disputes, and the evolving nature of global partnerships. These factors are placing substantial pressure on traditional alliances and international entities. The forum serves as a platform where decision-makers can share insights, evaluate imminent security risks, and explore actionable strategies for enhancing global cooperation.

The Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) organizes this exclusive event, which will host a wide range of participants, including ministers, security and intelligence officials, senior military leaders, representatives from multilateral organizations, distinguished scholars, and top international journalists.

Key Discussions on International Cooperation and Security Challenges

The opening day of the forum will feature a significant dialogue with H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs. This will be complemented by high-level discussions emphasizing the crucial need for enhanced international collaboration, strong strategic partnerships, and effective diplomatic avenues to foster credible and sustainable political resolutions.

In addition, panels are set to bring together national security advisors from countries like Poland, Switzerland, Austria, and Greece. Topics will include irregular migration, the evolving defense industry landscape, and insights from NATO and the Five Eyes intelligence alliance regarding current security dilemmas.

Challenges Facing Existing Alliances and the Role of Diplomacy

Hesham Elgamiel, Senior Director of Quality Assurance and Business Development at QIASS, expressed the significance of this year’s forum, stating that established alliances are experiencing mounting pressures and international cooperation is becoming ever more vital. The event, held in Qatar, underscores the country’s dedication to facilitating constructive dialogue. Elgamiel highlighted that this forum presents an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas on shared challenges and to assess how international partnerships can adapt to the changing global order.

Through an array of high-level plenary sessions and thoughtful dialogues, GSF 2026 will delve into the strains on international institutions, the increasing influence of emerging global players, and the pathways for future multilateral cooperation. It will also spotlight the indispensable roles of diplomacy, dialogue, and mediation as tools for bolstering both regional and global security.

Building on the success of its seven previous editions, which have attracted a diverse range of attendees, GSF 2026 aims to promote substantive policy discussions and generate actionable recommendations. It reinforces its role as a leading platform for engagement among senior decision-makers and security professionals, providing essential insights for navigating today’s multifaceted security landscape.

As GSF 2026 unfolds, it promises to play a crucial role in shaping the dialogue around global security, offering a roadmap for cooperation in an uncertain world.
